Welcome !

I am committed to acknowledging connections throughout the generations--past, present, and future--and igniting a sense of extraordinary family purpose in individuals in THIS generation. Let me help you discover your "roots" as well as strengthen the "branches" of your family tree. If you have had painful experiences in your family line, then this is the blog for you! In fact, all of us will see that as we strengthen ourselves, we strenthen our entire FAMILY TREE through the power of our positive influence.

Sentimental Sunday: Poetry entry

I'm happy to participate in THE SECOND GREAT AMERICAN LOCAL POEM AND SONG GENEALOGY CHALLENGE, hosted by Bill West. http://westinnewengland.blogspot.com/2010/10/second-great-american-local-poem-and.html

My relatives were pioneers and lived in Utah.  Pocket knives were commonplace in local life.  Mary Bathgate Shelley wrote this quaint poem when she gave a pocket knife to one of her grandsons, Anza Adams.

Here’s my entry:

I’ve got a little keepsake
Grandmother gave to me
When I was very young
And sit upon her knee.

She put it in my right hand
And there she did say
I wish you to keep this little gift
When I am far away.

I pray the Lord to bless you
And keep you free from strife
And be a true and faithful man
And never lose your knife.

This poem warms my heart, shows a sense of humor, and helps me see the wonderful family connection between a grandmother and her grandson.  Hope you enjoy it!
